Queensland DJ Cory Geisler dies at 27, reportedly from skin cancer

Cory Geisler, a popular club DJ and promoter based in Mackay, Queensland, has died at the age of 27.

He reportedly had skin cancer.

The news was confirmed by his sister Brittany, who in a Facebook post described him as “The most kind hearted, free spirit that was deeply loved by everyone that met him” and “A perfectionist, a creator, a challenger, a fighter.”

“It is with completely shattered hearts, the Geisler family have to announce the passing of our very loved Cory Geisler,” she wrote (according to the Townsville Bulletin).

Fans took to his latest Instagram photo — posted on October 22 — to share their condolences.

His fellow DJ friend Dr. Fresch posted the same selfie with a tribute, and revealed how close they had become despite not knowing each other for long.

“RIP CORY GEISLER ♥️ while this amazing man entered my life just three weeks ago when in Australia on tour, in the afternoon we spent together we made a real connection, I loved his energy immediately – we clicked. Finding out that our show was the last he promoted hit home hard. I am so glad I had the privilege of getting to meet this absolute legend of a human being. Cory, you are in my prayers. I send my love to the entire Geisler family in this difficult time. Your legacy will live on brother,” he wrote.

More celebrities are using their influence to encourage fans to have their skin checked regularly, most notably Hugh Jackman, who had his sixth skin cancer removed from his face in February 2017.
