Mixxx 2.5.3 released – Latest update for the Popular open-source DJ Software

The Mixxx team has just launched version 2.5.3 of their open-source DJ software, offering DJs more precision and enhanced features for live digital mixing.

Arriving two and a half months after the 2.5.2 update, this new release improves the Digital Vinyl System (DVS) to better reflect pitch control movements on turntables and CD players.

One of the key upgrades includes replacing the older Alpha-Beta filter with an advanced Kalman filter, which uses a smart predictive model to track vinyl speed more smoothly, even filtering out noise like crackling sounds.

Additional improvements to the DVS system include a quadrature phase tracker and enhanced detection for skipped or unusual measurements, leading to more accurate backspin performance.

The update also brings support for the Icon P1-Nano MIDI controller and refreshed mappings for Traktor Kontrol S2 Mk1, S4 Mk3, S3, and Numark NS6II controllers.

Notably, Mixxx 2.5.3 drops support for Ubuntu 24.10, which has reached end of life, and introduces a new package for Debian users. It also adds compatibility for compiling with GCC 15 and Link Time Optimization (LTO), along with improvements to the sound hardware settings.

DJs eager to try Mixxx 2.5.3 can download it as a Flatpak from Flathub or access the source files for custom builds. It will also be available soon in your Linux distribution’s stable repositories.
