Andy Dosty, born Andrew Amoh, is one of Ghana’s most respected and influential disc jockeys and radio presenters.
His journey from a young music lover in Kumasi to a household name across Ghana’s airwaves is a story of passion, resilience, and dedication.
Andy Dosty’s love for music and radio began in the mid-1990s. Inspired by international radio shows like Walt Baby Love’s Countdown in the USA and Dr. Faulks’ Rothmans Chart Show in the UK, he started his career as a radio DJ in 1996. His first job was at Radio Mercury in Kumasi, where his talent quickly shone through. After a year, he moved to Otec FM and later joined Peace FM in 2004. Over the years, Andy worked with several major stations, including Hello FM and Angel FM, where he built a strong reputation for his engaging style and deep knowledge of music.
In 2017, Andy Dosty took over as the host of “Daybreak Hitz” on Hitz FM, part of the Multimedia Group Limited. This morning show, airing from 6 am to 10 am, became one of the most listened to programs in Ghana. Andy’s ability to connect with listeners, combined with his sharp insights into entertainment and lifestyle, made Daybreak Hitz a staple for many Ghanaians starting their day.
Beyond entertaining, Andy Dosty has played a crucial role in elevating Ghanaian talents. He established a DJ school that has trained hundreds of aspiring DJs, helping to grow the industry. His radio shows have been platforms for emerging artists to showcase their music, and his support has helped launch several careers. Andy’s influence extends beyond radio; he has hosted major events and shows, including the Taste of Afrika program and the Graphic Showbiz TV program, which aired across Ghana and parts of Africa.
Andy Dosty’s excellence has been recognized with numerous awards. Notably, he won the 2019 National Communications Awards Radio Personality of the Year. He has also been a key figure at the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards, where he served on the board and co-hosted the 2024 ceremony. His performances on the DJ Awards stage are celebrated for their energy and creativity, inspiring many in the DJ community.
Throughout his career, Andy Dosty has experienced both highs and challenges. In 2019, he sparked controversy when he publicly discussed Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale’s comments on social media, later claiming credit for contributing to Shatta Wale’s success, a claim that fans disputed. In 2021, he made headlines for dismissing the rising artist Okese 1 due to lateness and unprofessional behavior.
On June 10, 2025, Hitz FM celebrated Andy Dosty’s incredible decade-long journey with the station by posting on their official Facebook page:
“10 years. Countless memories. One ANDY DOSTY.”
Another significant episode was his attempted return to Despite Media after five years with Angel FM. Despite initial warm welcomes from the company’s owner, Dr. Osei Kwame Despite, the managing director, Fadda Dickson, rejected his return, citing loyalty issues. Andy later reflected on this experience as a valuable lesson in professionalism and loyalty.
One of the most memorable highlights of the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2024 was the epic DJ battle between Andy Dosty and Merqury Quaye, widely revered as the “father of all DJs” in Ghana. This battle showcased the skill, creativity, and showmanship of both legends, thrilling fans and cementing their status as icons in Ghana’s music scene. The event was more than a competition, it was a celebration of Ghanaian DJ culture and its evolution.
Andy Dosty officially stepped down as the host of Daybreak Hitz on July 4, 2025 after a decade of hosting the flagship morning show on Hitz FM. His departure was publicly announced in late June 2025, with the news confirmed during interviews and social media posts around that time. Despite leaving the morning slot due to health reasons related to the strain of early mornings, Andy Dosty remains with Hitz FM, now hosting a new afternoon show called The Afternoon Ride, which airs from 12 pm to 4 pm and features love ballads, mid-tempo hits, and lifestyle conversations.
Andy Dosty’s journey is a testament to his talent and hard work. From humble beginnings in Kumasi to becoming a national icon, he has shaped Ghana’s entertainment landscape. His commitment to mentoring young DJs, supporting artists, and delivering quality radio content ensures his legacy will endure for years to come.
