Abeiku Aggrey Santana, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, has spoken up about the vital role DJs play in Ghana’s creative industry, calling them “one of the most important assets” the country has.
Speaking at the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2025 launch, Mr. Abeiku urged Ghanaians to appreciate DJs for their work in promoting music and shaping the country’s lively entertainment scene.
Abeiku Santana, who was recently appointed as Deputy CEO, told the audience to imagine radio and events without DJs. “What is going to happen if there’s no DJ on our radio stations? What if we don’t have DJs at our events?” he asked. “Our DJs are the vehicles that drive our music.”
He explained that while artists write and record songs, it is often the DJs who make those songs popular and meaningful to people. “The DJs give life and meaning to the songs of our artists,” Abeiku Santana said.
Before the launch of the Ghana DJ Awards, he noted, many DJs were not given the respect and recognition they deserved. The decision to celebrate DJs, spearheaded by Merqury Quaye and the team behind the awards, changed this narrative.
“Until the Ghana DJ Awards started, our DJs were left in the background, even though they are so important in our music industry,” Abeiku Santana added. He reminded everyone in attendance that today, as Deputy CEO and on behalf of the Ghana Tourism Authority, “we appreciate, recognize, and applaud the contribution and role of DJs in our creative economy.”
Abeiku Santana, a longtime advocate for Ghana’s tourism and culture, brings substantial media and entertainment expertise to his new position at the Tourism Authority. His remarks at the Guinness Ghana DJ Awards 2025 launch highlight the growing appreciation for DJs, not just as music selectors, but as cultural figures who unite and energize communities across Ghana.
The annual Guinness Ghana DJ Awards are now in their 13th year, continuing to honor the contributions of DJs to the nation’s music and culture.
