Without True Passion, You’ll Be Just a Flash in the Pan: DJ Big N Warns Aspiring DJs

Nigerian disc jockey Nonso Temisan Ajufo, popularly known as DJ Big N, has issued a candid warning to aspiring DJs about the importance of genuine passion and musical depth in the industry.

Speaking on his Instagram page, DJ Big N emphasized that being a DJ demands more than just a passing interest, without a deep love for music, newcomers risk becoming nothing more than a “flash in the pan.”

DJ Big N, who is a key figure at Mavin Records and has supported top artists like Tiwa Savage on her first American tour, also criticized DJs who focus exclusively on the Amapiano genre.

He urged them to “build their crates” by exploring a wider variety of musical styles, highlighting that versatility is essential for long term success.

“Everybody now wants to be a DJ. It’s not an escape route, it’s not a plan B. If you don’t have deep love for music, you will be a flash in the pan. Yeah, I’m talking to those DJs who think the only music out there is Amapiano. Build your crates,” he said.
