Calvin Harris Faces Intellectual theft Accusations from 90s DJ, Criticized for ‘Out of Control Ego’

Calvin Harris is currently embroiled in a fierce plagiarism dispute with iconic 90s DJ and trance producer Chicane. The controversy erupted after Chicane accused Harris’s latest single, “Blessings,” of bearing a striking resemblance to his 1996 classic “Offshore.”

Chicane posted a video on social media highlighting the similarities, dubbing it a “copyright alert” and defending his intellectual property.

In response, Harris fired back with a sharp and dismissive video, calling the accusations “f***ing joking” and arguing that the similarities were superficial and common in music. He even pointed out that Chicane’s “Offshore” itself shares elements with Tangerine Dream’s 1983 track “Love on a Real Train,” turning the accusation back on him.

Harris’s bold rebuttal sparked a heated debate among fans and industry figures, with some supporting Chicane’s right to protect his work and others backing Harris’s defense of creative influence in electronic music.

So far, the dispute remains a public spat on social media with no formal legal action taken. The clash has highlighted the fine line between inspiration and plagiarism in the electronic music scene, and some critics have suggested Harris’s confrontational attitude risks damaging his reputation if it continues unchecked. The outcome of this high-profile controversy is still unfolding, with both artists drawing renewed attention to their work.
